Digital Walks: Walk From Home
The past two years with the ongoing pandemic has been physically, emotionally, mentally challenging for everyone. People, like you and me, found ourselves confined inside their homes, within the four walls. The idea to translate physical walks into digital format was daunting. To be honest, when we started with digital walks it seemed an apprehensive idea. There were numerous factors that had to be considered including platform, internet connection and themes which can be justified digitally.
One of the major points of discussion was on how to execute a walk that it retains the same pleasure as one gets in having a physical walk.
There are few logical reasons why Digital Walks are pretty great:
1) You don’t have to navigate through traffic, shoddy areas, or combat surrounding noises.
2) People from different states (as it happened) could join the wall so you get to explore Delhi without having to visit Delhi.
3) Digital Walks can be immensely narrative. You can leisurely talk about themes that may otherwise be hard to cover in a physical walk.
4) One of the BEST things is you can over ride the entire tedious process of getting permission for private/restricted buildings. You can also cover places which physically may be really far away from each other.
5) Unfortunately, most of the heritage sites are in a deep state of neglect. In physical walks, we try best to visually display how it was. Through digital platforms we can zoom, enlarge, detail more thoroughly small details in paintings, vintage photographs and draw comparisons on historic landmarks.
It has been incredible the kind of response we have received with devoted audience who has attended almost all walks. There are participants from several cities and continents who always wanted to visit Delhi but never could because of physical, political, financial constraints. Despite lifting of the lockdown, we made the call to retain the walks, and continue to translate all our physical walks into digital format for everyone and anyone who wishes to walk from home.
