Event Time:
3:30 pm
Event Location:
There are numerous old monuments in Delhi, what makes Purana Qila one of a kind is it is believed to be the capital city of the Pandavas of Mahabharata – the ancient epic text. The fort has rebirth many times, situated at the banks of where once Yamuna flowed. The current fort was built by the second Mughal Emperor Humayun in the 16th century, until he was driven into exile by Sher Shah Suri, founder of the Sur Dynasty. The fort was recaptured by the Mughal Dynasty later and witnessed the unfortunate death of Emperor Humayun on the flights of monumental building Sher Mandal in the complex!
The fort has continued to be inhabited as far back as 1000BC till the present century! During the walk, you will not only see the monuments and the lavishly decorated imposing mosque inside but will walk on the same grounds where the refugees of 1947 partition took temporary shelter during the largest migration of the history.
There is a beautiful lake that runs in the periphery of the fort walls; it once acted as a moat. In the evening you can sit for the lively light and show within the fort walls. It is a memorable experience to see the show about the historical seven cities of Delhi under the open night sky.
